The Black Code Collective Hack-A-Thon is a Hacktoberfest-themed team competition for software engineers in Washington, DC. Participants build solutions to problems that affect their communities, with cash prizes for the top three teams.

What to expect

Form a team, build a solution for one of three tracks, and present your work at the in-person judging round. The tracks are:

  • AI: Ethics and Access. Build a tool, framework, or product that makes the benefits of AI more equitably accessible, or that exposes or reduces its harms, such as algorithmic bias in hiring, lending, criminal justice, and healthcare.
  • Modern Healthcare Outcomes. Build something that improves health outcomes, expands access to care, or helps rebuild trust between Black communities and the healthcare system.
  • Community Development. Build a solution that strengthens economic mobility, civic engagement, or access to resources within Black communities.

Prizes

First place receives $500, second place $300, and third place $200.
