What it is

STATION DC is a nonprofit tech hub in Washington, DC that brings together startups, venture investors, government, the military, philanthropists and industry. Its tagline is "Where Futuremakers Meet Policymakers." It is part of the STATION network run by Austin-based Capital Factory, alongside STATION Austin and STATION NWA, and DC is Capital Factory's first location outside Texas. The DC government, through the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development, committed $2 million to help launch the hub. A launch event was held in July 2024 and membership applications opened in March 2025.

What it offers founders

The model centers on convening rather than desks. Members get access to a 12,000-square-foot clubhouse in Union Market with flexible meeting space for strategic discussions, board meetings and private events. Programming includes private briefings, policy roundtables, panels and dinners with policymakers, regulators and national security leaders, plus regulatory and policy intelligence for frontier industries. Education is powered by Capital Factory. A Founding Mentor Network of operators holds monthly office hours, makes introductions, and advises startups on go-to-market, procurement and compliance. STATION DC has also named an annual Delta Force cohort of 6 to 10 DC startup founders who receive complimentary membership and curated access to DC government officials, federal agencies and policymakers.

Who it is for

General membership is open to startups, VCs, nonprofits, government, military and corporate members. The focus is on frontier and dual-use technology, meaning products with both commercial and government uses, including AI, energy, security, space, defense, autonomy and healthcare. Founders building for government or defense customers, or whose markets depend on regulation, are the clearest fit. Membership is open broadly, with an emphasis on innovators based in the DMV.

How to engage

Start at the STATION DC website to apply for membership or ask about events. Membership pricing is not published, so ask directly. Experienced operators can apply to the mentor network, and selected mentors receive discounted membership. The Build in DC Summit, announced as STATION DC's flagship event with its inaugural edition set for July 2025, is a lower-commitment way to meet the community. Details on the opening of membership and the Delta Force cohort are in the March 2025 membership announcement, and the advisory council, mentors and partners are listed in the July 2025 coalition announcement.

Why it matters in the DMV ecosystem

STATION DC is one of the few places in the region built specifically to put early-stage founders in the same room as federal policymakers, defense buyers and investors. Named partners include Leonid Capital Partners, Bloomberg Industry Group, 1Leader, VC in DC and Vanta. For a founder new to DC who needs to understand procurement, regulation or national security customers, it offers a concentrated network and recurring programming in one place.
