What it is

The Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC) is a membership association for the technology community in Northern Virginia. Its stated mission is to convene and champion the region's tech community, and it works on advocacy, networking, workforce initiatives and strategic partnerships. Its members range from early stage startups and consulting firms to large corporations, and its member advantages page cites access to more than 500 member companies.

What it offers founders

  • Technology Startup membership: a membership category for early stage companies developing a minimum viable product, generally in business for less than three years.
  • Startups and Small Businesses community: a Community of Interest with events and content for companies at every stage of growth.
  • Starting Point powered by KPMG: a three-part series of business education and networking for tech startups with an MVP, early stage growth companies and small businesses. Past sessions covered raising capital, preparing for growth and exit strategies.
  • Other Communities of Interest: groups focused on AI, cybersecurity and privacy, data center and cloud, marketing and growth, space, and workforce development.
  • Events and awards: summits and recognition programs such as the Tech100 and Cyber50 awards.

Membership and pricing

NVTC offers four categories: Technology, Associate (service providers such as legal and financial firms), Affiliate (nonprofits and government agencies) and Technology Startup. Startup eligibility applies during the first year of membership, after which members move to the Technology membership matching their company size. Dues are not published on the public pages reviewed, so contact NVTC for pricing. Listed member benefits include access to the member directory, up to 25% off tickets to signature events, free access to Community of Interest events, members-only events, and partner discounts. Benefits extend to all employees of member companies.

How to engage

Review the Startups and Small Businesses community, then compare categories on the membership application page. The events calendar lists upcoming sessions and summits. For questions, use the contact form; NVTC says it responds within two business days.

Why it matters in the DMV ecosystem

NVTC's member base spans startups, consulting firms and large corporations, and its communities cover areas such as cybersecurity, data centers, AI and space. That makes it a practical place for B2B and govtech founders to meet potential customers, partners, advisors and hires, and to follow regional tech policy.
