What it is
The National Contract Management Association (NCMA) is a professional association for people who work in contract management, procurement, acquisition, government contracting and public spend. Headquartered in Reston, Virginia, it reports more than 20,000 members and focuses on advancing the profession through standards, training, certification and outreach. It maintains the ANSI-approved Contract Management Standard and the Contract Management Body of Knowledge (CMBOK).
What it offers founders
For a founder selling to government, NCMA is mainly a way to build contracting know-how and meet the people who run procurements on both sides. Offerings include:
- Professional certifications, including CPCM, CFCM, CCCM and CCMA, which combine education and experience
- Live virtual trainings on topics such as cost and pricing, with continuing education credits
- Specialized Programs (formerly certificate programs) that award a certificate, digital badge and CPEs
- Contract Management magazine, a biweekly newsletter, an annual salary survey, an online forum and a competency assessment
- Local chapters for networking, plus a job board
- Events such as the Warfighter Acquisition Forum in Washington, DC and the NCMA Nexus conference
Membership and pricing
Annual membership is $170 for Regular members (full-time contract management professionals), $110 for New Professionals with five years or less in the field, $95 for Affiliates whose work relates to contracting, $75 for retirees, and free for full-time students with a .edu email address for up to four years. Members receive at least 20 free CPE/CLP hours. Trainings are priced separately, with member and non-member rates.
How to engage
Join online and pick a membership type, or start with a single training from the learning catalog. Event registration is handled on NCMA's events site. The national office is at 1818 Library Street, Suite 500, Reston, VA 20190, and can be reached at 571.382.0082 or 800.344.8096 from 8am to 5pm ET, or through the contact page.
Why it matters in the DMV ecosystem
Federal contracting is a major customer channel for DMV startups, and contracting rules are often the hardest part of the first deal. NCMA gives founders and early hires a structured way to learn how acquisition works, earn credentials buyers recognize, and network with contracting officers and industry contract managers concentrated around Washington.
