What it is

The Greater Baltimore Committee (GBC) is a private-sector organization that provides economic and civic leadership for the Baltimore region. It was founded in 1955 and merged in 2022 with the Economic Alliance of Greater Baltimore, which promoted the region to investors. More than 300 partners support it, including large and small companies, universities, hospitals, nonprofits and foundations. It is not a networking chamber in the usual sense. Its work centers on regional strategy, investment attraction and policy.

What it offers founders

The most direct founder resources come through UpSurge Baltimore, which shares GBC's office and is linked from GBC's site:

  • UpSurge Discover, a resource navigation service. You fill out an intake form about your venture and a Resource Navigator points you to suitable local support.
  • Entrepreneur Support Network, a group of Baltimore support organizations, including Techstars and TEDCO, that coordinate programs and the BMore Tech Connect directory.
  • Events such as industry spotlights on sports technology and defense technology, and the Maryland Student Venture Showcase, which in 2026 featured student founders selected for $50,000 Pava LaPere Innovation Awards.

GBC's Regional Innovation Office builds a pipeline of public investment opportunities in AI, cybersecurity, life sciences, advanced manufacturing and workforce, building on the region's federal Tech Hub designation. It hosts Coffee With RIO networking events.

Who it is for

GBC partnership suits established employers and institutions that want a role in regional policy. Early-stage founders will usually get more from UpSurge's free navigation and events than from a paid partnership.

Partnership and pricing

GBC uses partnership tiers rather than standard membership. Published levels start at Connector ($5,000 and up) and run to Chairman's Circle ($100,000 and up). The Partner Level (Groundbreaker, Supporter, Collaborator) is aimed at smaller firms, nonprofits and emerging organizations, but its price is not published. See the partnership page or call 410.727.2820.

Why it matters in the DMV ecosystem

GBC's ten-year All In 2035 plan names entrepreneurship and turning research into companies as goals. Through UpSurge it also publishes regional startup data, reporting 536 active companies in the Baltimore region as of May 2026. For founders in or moving to Baltimore, it shapes where public investment goes.
