Who it is for
MCE focuses on microbusinesses with 10 or fewer employees, including startups, self-employed people who want to grow, and owners with limited credit or collateral who have been turned down by traditional lenders. Start-up loan applicants must first have tried a bank, be a U.S. citizen or legal alien, show ability to repay, and have a business plan. Its FAQ lists the service area as Wicomico, Worcester, Somerset, Dorchester, Talbot, Caroline, Queen Anne's, and Kent counties, plus Baltimore City, Baltimore County, and Anne Arundel County.
How to engage or apply
Start with the client intake form to book a meeting with a business counselor or loan officer. MCE advises allowing a month or two to gather loan documents. Offices are at 314 Civic Avenue in Salisbury and 301 N. Calvert St., Suite 201, in Baltimore. Phone: 410-546-1900.
Why it matters in the DMV ecosystem
MCE is one of the few lenders making small, startup-friendly loans on Maryland's Eastern Shore, a largely rural region far from the Washington and Baltimore investor networks. Pairing capital with free counseling makes it a practical first step for founders who are not yet bankable.
