What it is
The Capital Region Minority Supplier Development Council (CRMSDC) is a nonprofit established in 1972 and one of 23 regional affiliates of the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC). Its corporate members are buying corporations and procurement organizations with supplier diversity programs, and it works to connect them with minority business enterprises (MBEs) in DC, Maryland and Northern Virginia. It is based in Largo, Maryland.
What it offers founders
For minority founders, the core offering is MBE certification and the access that follows: a searchable profile in NMSDC's MBE database, exposure to member corporations, buyer exchanges, and capacity-building and capital access programs. CRMSDC also runs programs and events:
- Super Matchmaker Conference: one-on-one matchmaking sessions and roundtables with corporations and government agencies.
- Capital Readiness Program: training, capacity building and access to networks and capital, administered under the Minority Business Development Agency.
- Key Bridge Business Recovery Program: a grant initiative to support 100 businesses within roughly 5 to 10 miles of the Francis Scott Key Bridge.
- Leaders and Legends, Golf Classic and Annual Business Meeting: recognition and networking events.
Certification eligibility and cost
Certification and recertification are now handled through the NMSDC Hub. A business must be a for-profit U.S. enterprise at least 51% owned, managed and controlled by qualified minority group members who are U.S. citizens. CRMSDC's FAQ says the headquarters must be in DC, Maryland or Northern Virginia down to Fredericksburg. Fees are non-refundable: a $350 application processing fee plus an initial certification fee from $350 (under $1 million in sales) to $1,200 (over $50 million). Review typically takes 30 to 90 days, and certification lasts one year. CRMSDC notes certification does not guarantee a contract.
For corporate buyers
Corporate membership is for corporations building supplier diversity programs. Annual dues are $3,700 for companies under $1 billion in revenue and $5,500 above that.
Why it matters in the DMV ecosystem
Large corporations in the region often source through certified diverse suppliers, and NMSDC certification is a common credential they look for. For a minority-owned startup selling to enterprises, CRMSDC is a practical route to get certified and meet buyers. See programs and events for current offerings.
