What it is

The Loudoun Small Business Development Center (Loudoun SBDC) is a community resource for entrepreneurs and small businesses in Loudoun County, Virginia. It is part of the Virginia SBDC Network, a partnership between the U.S. Small Business Administration, George Mason University (through Mason Enterprise) and local host organizations. The Virginia SBDC Network is nationally accredited by America's SBDC. The center's stated purpose is to promote entrepreneurship and small business growth by providing coaching, training and information on all aspects of small business management.

What it offers founders

  • One-on-one coaching: no-cost sessions with an SBDC advisor, by appointment only. Coaching topics listed on the site include planning (vision, strategic planning, setting expectations), expanding (business development, marketing, sales, customer acquisition and retention) and scaling (operations, personnel and budgeting). Spanish-speaking coaches are available on request.
  • Ask a Coach: an online form for submitting a question about starting, growing or exiting a business.
  • Workshops and events: the center runs workshops, classes and networking events. The homepage lists 1 Million Cups and workshops such as How to Start a Business and the Business Plan Boot Camp among its educational offerings.
  • Resource library: articles, recorded webinars and video presentations, plus separate resource pages for new businesses and for growing businesses.

Who it is for

The center serves small businesses from start-up through growth stage, including new business owners and entrepreneurs who want help building a strategy and roadmap for growth. Virginia SBDC programs are open to the public on a non-discriminatory basis, and reasonable accommodations for people with disabilities are available when requested at least two weeks in advance. It is a general small business resource rather than a venture-focused program, so it fits founders who need practical help with planning, marketing, operations and financing basics.

How to engage

To book coaching, use the Get Started form, which asks whether you have met with an SBDC coach before and what you want to discuss. New clients are then sent to complete a no-cost online registration with the Virginia SBDC; existing clients do not need to log in, and the team follows up about the appointment. You can also send a question through Ask a Coach or contact the SBDC Coordination Team at help@masonsbdc.org or (703) 261-4105. Upcoming sessions are posted on the events calendar, and past webinars are in the event archives.

The office is at 43777 Central Station Dr, Suite 300, Ashburn, VA 20147, and is open Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Coaching appointments can also be held virtually.

Why it matters in the DMV ecosystem

For a founder new to Northern Virginia, the Loudoun SBDC is a free first stop for structured business advice inside Loudoun County. Because it is part of a statewide network backed by the SBA and George Mason University, it can also connect clients to wider Virginia SBDC resources and to programs such as SBA certifications. Its resource pages have pointed local businesses to items like the Leesburg Business Infusion Grant and the SBA HUBZone program.
