What it is
The Department of Procurement and Material Management (DPMM) supports Fairfax County Government with procurement and material management. Its work covers purchasing, contracting, non-capital construction, warehousing, inventory management and fixed asset accountability. For vendors, it is the main office to understand when trying to sell to the county.
What it offers founders
DPMM publishes a Selling to the County page with videos introducing county procurement, explaining how to find opportunities, purchasing thresholds and timelines, and a recorded Selling to Fairfax workshop. Formal solicitations are distributed through eVA, Virginia's procurement system: vendors register at eva.virginia.gov, pick commodity codes, and receive a Notice of Solicitation by email when a matching solicitation is posted.
The Vendor Pitch Portal is useful for startups with a new product or service. It lets a business present an offering to county agencies, departments and Fairfax County Public Schools at once. Submissions are reviewed by the Department of Economic Initiatives, and approved pitches go to agency directors and purchasing contacts and into a searchable database. Interested agencies contact the vendor directly. Submissions stay active for twelve months, and each vendor may have up to two accepted submissions at a time.
Who it is for
Businesses that want Fairfax County Government or Fairfax County Public Schools as a customer, including small and early-stage companies with no prior public sector sales. Vendors should be licensed and permitted to operate in Virginia and Fairfax County before pitching.
How to engage
Watch the Selling to Fairfax workshop recording or attend a free monthly session, register in eVA, and review current contracting opportunities. Then submit a pitch with a proposal or capability statement through the portal. DPMM is at 12000 Government Center Parkway, Suite 427, Fairfax, VA 22035, open 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and reachable at 703-324-3201 (TTY 711) or DPMM@fairfaxcounty.gov. The Supplier Diversity Team answers process questions at supplierdiversity@fairfaxcounty.gov.
Why it matters in the DMV ecosystem
For founders in Northern Virginia, the county is a nearby public sector customer, and its pitch portal gives founders a way to put an unsolicited product in front of many county buyers at once, which complements watching for formal bids.
